So it continues! I'll try to keep these updates as large as possible, but I can't make any promises.

Even from when I updated the first 4 pages, I can see a huge difference in my art style. I'm going to just leave them, though, because I'm okay with them.

When I first started this webcomic, I didn't really know what I wanted it to be, and that seems clear to me in the first couple pages. There are a couple of attempts at jokes (or whatever the watered-down equivalent is), and Celina and her imp almost seem to be acting out of character. Celina seems far too malicious, and strangely, Celina's imp seems far too angry. Not that it's not justified, but it's not how he acts further down the line. I don't think their characters became set in stone until Chapter 4.

I'm guessing it is one of the side effects of not writing anything down or planning it through. Even now I don't like to set things in stone, which is great when I'm generating a ton of ideas and terrible when I have writer's block. When I first started, I wanted to start a web comic, but I could never get past the first couple pages. I had insanely complex story arcs planned out, but I couldn't figure out how to round it out so that there are things between the plot points that connected, if that makes sense. So I decided to start "Imp" as more of a trail run than anything else. Something that had the freedom of short stories while keeping a long-term narrative. I came up with Celina and her imp as simple archetypes, had a foggy idea of the first 5 Chapters and an eventual ending, and stole the world from yet another story I came up with a few years prior but never ended up writing.

This was actually meant to be a prequel, but I've since scrapped the idea and instead put those characters in this story. (The main character was an imp who had been separated from her witch at a young age and then decides to go looking for them, vampires were friendlier with imps, Maizy was originally two separate characters, Niomnes had a cat, and the mythology of this world had a bigger role that I'm slowly integrating into this story, etc.) "Imp" was also created to practice drawing humans, which I was terrible at. I still struggle, especially with arms, but I like to think creating over 100 pages a year has helped with that greatly.

The reason the first chapter or so has such clunky, thick lines is because I only had a mouse and I couldn't figure out how to draw lines without making them super wobbly. So instead I used the lasso tool to create lines. Now I have a tablet, but it lags too much to use in anything but MS paint, so I just use it for sketches. The final product is still done by mouse.

So my plan is to slowly redo all the pages through Chapter 3. After that, I'm still not happy with how the pages look, but I have to draw the line somewhere or I'd redo the entire comic. It's also about redoing story elements as well, as I've already mentioned.

In addition, as I go through these old pages, I realize that they're incredibly hard to read and I've already caught 4 spelling/grammatical errors. I see two on the next page!

Anyways, thanks for reading.
